It all started with a tradition of doing a handspring every year on my birthday - just to see how long I could keep it up. In May of 2003, Ben took me to New York City, and arranged for my best friend from Charlotte and her husband to meet us there. So the blog begins with a birthday handspring in Central Park....after a rooftop marriage proposal the night before. (I said YES!)
From then on, it’s been cartwheels; much easier to catch on camera (and better for the knees). We try to remember to do one in each new city, country or celebration location we are privileged to visit. We've missed a few memorable spots and always regret it afterwards. I guess we’ll have to go back to those places before I’m too shriveled up and brittle to do cartwheels. After that, maybe somersaults?
I think what we enjoy most is that bystanders rarely notice our shenanigans, as you will see in the pictures. Except, of course, for that cute little donkey on The Burren in Ireland (2009 series). Click on the picture to enlarge and see the sweet, condescending look on his face - "crazy Americans".
We are extremely grateful for the gift of visiting and celebrating so many places in God's beautiful world. In the words of St. Augustine, "The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."
